This piece is based on a Chickasaw ghost story:
There was a Chickasaw brave named Blue Jay who intended to marry his sweetheart. Her request from him was that she wanted a white deer gown to wear on her wedding day. He hunted for a white deer to fulfill her request. He looked a long time. Finally, one night he saw a white buck. He fired his arrow - dead shot. But the deer did not fall. He fired again and again. Blue Jay then realized that this was a ghost deer and began to run.
The bride-to-be never saw her love again but sometimes in the night she would see a white deer in the distance.
